What: marched into China's capital city of Nanking and proceeded to murder 300,000 out of 600,000 civilians and soldiers in the city.
Effect: The six weeks of carnage would become known as the Rape of Nanking and represented the single worst atrocity during the World War II era in either the European or Pacific theaters of war. -

German Blitzkrieg
LinkA German term for “lightning war,” blitzkrieg is a military tactic designed to create disorganization among enemy forces through the use of mobile forces and locally concentrated firepower. Its successful execution results in short military campaigns, which preserves human lives and limits the expenditure of artillery. German forces tried out the blitzkrieg in Poland in 1939 before successfully employing the tactic with invasions of Belgium, the Netherlands and France in 1940. -

Effect: The U.S. won the battle, losing 100,000 soldiers in the process. -

What: Attacked the island of Iwo Jima.
Effect: Attacked the Japanese on the island and won. When they first arrived on the island they were basically sitting ducks to Japanese gunners due to not being able to find cover. -
Battle of Okinawa

What: Fought the last and biggest battles of World War II in the Pacific.
Effect: The campaign ended 82 days in. Japan had 77,000+ casualties and we (the U.S. and our allies) had 65,000+ casualties (with 14,000 soldiers being killed. -

Effect: The German's lost more than 8,000 soldiers. -
Dropping of the atomic bombs

Effect: 140,000 (80k of which were killed on site) were killed and 35,000 suffered injuries (radiation poisoning, etc...) -
