On December 7th, 1941, Japanese air forces attacked the United States naval fleet in Hawaii. Eight battleships and more than three hundred planes were destroyed. There were 2,403 American casualties. -

This was the largest confrontation of World War II. This battle ended on February 2, 1943. -
Normandy Invasion
This was also called Operation Overlord or the D-day invasion. This was led by Dwight D. Eisenhower. Resulted in the Allied liberation of Western Europe from Nazi Germany's control. -
V-E Day
In 1945 the Americans and Soviets met in the German capital of Berlin. Hitler committed suicide in his secret bunker two days before on April 30th. Victory in Europe Day was announced on May 8, 1945. -
Atomic Bombings of Japan
The United States dropped bombs on two Japanese cities Hiroshima on August 6, 1945, and then Nagasaki on August 9, 1945. Over 120,000 Japanese died immediately. -
V-J Day
Victory over Japan Day is the day on which imperial Japan surrendered in World War II. This brought effect the war to an end.
