Japanese Invasion of China
In 1937 Japan brutally attacked China, this attack was referred to the Marco Polo Bridge Incident. This caused a lot of conflict. It led to the Second Sino-Japanese War. This war made up half of the casulaities that the entire Pacific War had.

The Rape of Nanking
The Rape of Nanking also known as the Nanking Massacre. It was part of the Sino-japanese War. Japanese troops went to China and raped and killed the people in Nanking. They were innocent females of all ages. Japan gained nothing from doing this it was just a terrible thing they did because it was war time and they thought that meant to whatever.

German Invasion of Poland
Hitler leads a German invasion in Poland. This really upsets Britain and France. It doesn't take them long to declare war on Germany, only two days thus starting World War II Septermber 3rd. Unfortunately it also didn't take long for Germany to to defeat Poland with the help of it's ally the Soviet Union

German Blitzhrieg
Blitzkrieg Germany's tactic for the war was also known as 'Lightning War' lasted from 1939 til 1941. Blitzkrieg was basically just mercilessly attacking the enemy using a whole bunch of weapons. While it ended up failng at the ended up failing but did succeed against Poland, Denmark, Norway, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, France, Greece and Yugoslavakia.

Operation Barabossa
Operation Barabossa was Germany's plan to invade Russia. At first it seemed like it would be successfull with the Sabastopol falling to Germany and Moscow being attacked. The victory didn't last long because the harsh winter in Russia was something that the Germans were not expecting. That allowed the Russians to attack back.

Pearl Harbor
The attack of Pearl Harbor was a surprise attack from Japan in Hawaii. It damaged an American fleet angering the US causing them to join the war. Not only did they declare war on Germany on Japan but Germany too. Overall it really helped Japan for a little bit because it allowed it to have a lot of military successes in the war.

Wannsee Conference
The Wannsee Conference was a meeting of Nazi and German officials. The meeting's topic was the "Final Solution" which was the plan to get rid of Jews. This final solution was planned to affect 11,000,000 Jews in Europe. Unfortunately the meeting was successful in coordinating the annihaltion of many Jews in Europe.

Bataan Death March
The Bataan Death March occured when the US surrendered to the Japanese. SInce they had surrendered they were forced to march to prison camps. Since the surrender happened on a Filipino island Filipono troops had to march the 65 miles with the Americans.

Battle of Stalingrad
The Battle of Stalingrad lasted until the second of Febuary the following year. The battle is considered a turning point in the war. Germany had invaded Russia in hopes of obtaining control of Stalingrad and that would help them take Russia. The Russians were determined and defended the city

Operation Gomorrah
Operation Gomorrah was an attack on Germany. That night the British bombed Germany. Things didn't get any better the next morning because Americans bombed them during the day. The first British raid caused the deaths of more than 1,500 German civilians.

D-Day [Normandy Invasion]
D Day was when the allies went over to Normandy to try to takle it from Germany. It was American, Britsh and Canadian troops that went to the Normandt coast. It wasn't untl late August that northern France was liberated. D Day was very significant because it is what is thought to be the signaled the end of the war in Europe.

Battle of the Bulge
Ending in January it had started December 16. The battle happened because Hitler wanted to split the armies of the allies. He did this by surprising them with a blitzkrieg. For Germany it gabe them a glimmer of hope. There were 19,000 American casualities. It was able to delay the march into Germany.

Operation Thunderclap
Operation thunderclap was a plan that was only a plan, they never went through with it. Because of this it really isn't talked about much and was not a significant part of the war because it was only a plan. It was a plan made by the Allies, they wanted to bomb Germany, because bombs make everything better. :/

Battle of Iwo Jima
The Battle of Imo Jima was the US of invasion of Japan. The US wanted to have a base near the coast of Japan. It was a major battle ands lasted until the 26 of March. It resulted in an American victory.

Battle of Okinawa
The battle of Okinawa was very significant in the war because it was the last battle in the Pacific. Along with being the last it was also the biggest. It resulted in plenty of casulaities on both sides. At the end it was a win for the allies. More specificallty the US because they occupied it years after it.

VE Day
VE day is Victory in Europe Day. This day they celbrate the defeat of the nazis. It is when German soldiers all of Europe surrended. It is celbrated because it is the end of the war in Europe and is also celebrated by America

Dropping of the Atomic Bombs
By 1945 America was fully into the war. August 6th the US dropped the first atomic bomb. That bomb landed in the city of Hiroshima and killed 90% of the city. 80,000 died immediately and many more innocent people would die later because of the radiation. VJ Day
V J day marks the day Japan surrendered. This is what ended World War II and the allies could celebrate. Truman describes it as "the day when fascism finally dies". It caused a lot of celebration and for many relief.
