Rooselvelt signed it on March 11, 1941, a year and a half after the outbreak of war in Europe in September 1939 but nine months before the U.S. entered the war in December 1941. -

The United States drops an atomic bomb on Hiroshima, killing 75,000 people instantly, and injuring more than 100,000. -
Surrender of Japan
Japan surrendered from the war. The ceremonies lasted less than a half hour long and took place on board the battleship USS Missouri. The boat was anchored with other United States and British ships in Tokyo Bay.
