Germany sunk a British passenger ship, the Lusitania. Germany killed 1,200 people and 128 of them were Americans. The U.S. was angered and many wanted war with Germany. Germany sunk the ship because they "thought there was weapons under the boat". To come to find out later on Germany was right. -

German Submarine sinks the Lusitania, due to belief that they were shipping weapons to Britain. The ship carried 1,198 people and 128 of them were Americans. -

Zimmerman Telegram
Germany supposedly sent a telegram to Mexico to get them to help Germany attack the U.S. If Mexico helped they would get there land back. The U.S. intercepted the Zimmerman Telegram. Woodrow Wilson said, "The world must be made safe for democracy." -
Submarines Back
Germany resumes unrestricted submarine warfare in European waters. This act draws the US into war and has Germany defeated. -
United States of America declare war on Germany
German submarines attacked American ships because of the idea of them containing weapons going to Britain. In the attack on the ship Americans were killed, which enraged the US.
