    Industrialism.

    One main event that caused the war was industrialism. Counties needed new markets and soon, Britain and France made new enemies with Germany who wanted the land already claimed by the two growing countries.

    World War 1’s start is attributed mainly by the assassination of Franz Ferdinand (the Austrian archduke). However, this event was just the cherry on top. There were many events leading up to World War 1.

    The war has begun! Threats have been building for a while- pitting the Central Powers against the Allied Power (eventually joined by the United States). Lasting four years, the war was thought to be the war to end all wars. There was much destruction, and the introduction of new weaponry.

    The ship Lusitania, a British ship that had Americans on it, was sunk by a German submarine, and killed 128 Americans. This made the United States angry, and further pushed the war. Very soon, the Central powers (Austria-Hungary, Bulgaria, Germany, and the Ottoman Empire) were fighting the Allies (Britain, France, Russia, Italy, Belgium, Serbia, Montenegro and Japan).

    The U.S. felt a need to enter the war after being provoked- form the sinking of the Lusitania causing the deaths of many Americans. Not able to offer much, the U.S. supplied the Allies with 100,000 men upon entry to the war, however, eventually, 2 million Americans served. The biggest contribution made by the U.S. was economic. Britain was spending a ton of money on this war, and America’s joining saved Britain from bankruptcy. The U.S. started into the war slowly, but it did make a difference

    The war officially ends,
    The war officially ends, about 50,000 Americans have lost their lives, fighting for the Allied Powers. The Allies won, losing more than 9 million soldiers in all, with 21 million wounded.

    The Treaty of Versailles, signed in 1919. This treaty made the boarders from Europe to the Middle East very clear. It made the League of Nations to organize peace, and sentenced Germany to repay the war debt and lose territory. (punishing Germany in such a way was a large factor contributing to World War II)

    This was a time of great prosperity. People bought many things on “credit” and bought lavish items, and partied a lot. These times initially brought about the horrible crash. This was America’s hight, soon to come would be America’s very low.

    Black Tuesday, the stock market crash. The price of stocks collapsed, and plummeted America into panic and poverty. Leading almost directly to the Great Depression. Because so many people bought goods on “credit”, now all their money was gone. People rushed to banks to get their money back- but the banks had no money to give the people so they closed. Jobs were lost, stores were closed, and the Great Depression was upon America, and soon spread around the world.

    The Great Depression Worldwide

    The Great Depression caused great loss- Not only in America, but Around the world. Germany, at this time, was still paying off war debts- issued by the Treaty of Versailles. The disaster and and hopelessness of the Germans made them feel miserable, so when a new leader, Adolf Hitler appeared and claimed that he could make Germany so much better, claiming its rightful place in the world- the Germans responded positively.

    Hitler rises to power.

    Hitler's rise to power inspired the German people to fight for what they want. He creaded the Natzi army and wanted all the power he could get- so he started to try and expand his territory by taking land from others. This launched World War II.

    The Natzis of Germany, lead by Adolf Hitler, attacked Poland in hopes of expansion. Other countries felt the need to intervene with ended up with World War II- a six year long war.
