    The Schlieffen Plan Ended, and it didnt succeed.
  • Archduke Franz Ferdinand was Shot and killed

    He was shot and killed by a Serbian man who thought Serbia should control Bosnia instead of Austria.
  • Austria-Hungary declares war on Serbia

    Because its leader had been shot, Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia.
  • Germany declared war on Russia

    This was due to the allianze Russia had with Serbia and the allianze Germany had with Austria-Hungary.
  • Germany declared war on France

    This was due to the allianze France had with Serbia and the allianze Germany had with Austria-Hungary.

    It became known as The Great War because it affected people all over the world. The war was fought between "The Triple Allianze" and "The Triple Entente"

    Lots of new jobs were created, such as making weapons in factories. Some women got the chance to work for the first time.
  • War at Sea

    Naval battles mainly took place in the North Sea and the Atlantic. Britain used blockades to stop Germany from receiving supplies by sea. Germany reacted by using U-boats (submarines) to attack ships travelling to Britain.
  • The Battle of the Somme

    Long ditches were dug in the ground. Soldiers lived in the trenches and sometimes climbed out to attack. Around one million soldiers were killed, wounded or missing.
  • The infusion of the American Troops

    American troops provided resources into the western front and it finally tipped the scale in the Allies’ favor.
  • Germany signed an armistice agreement with the Allies

    At 5 a.m. that morning, Germany, bereft of manpower and supplies and faced with imminent invasion, signed an armistice agreement with the Allies in a railroad car outside Compiégne, France.
