Japanese claim they were firmed on by Chinese troops. This occurance happened outside of Bejing on the Marco Polo Bridge. Japanese then invaded China. -

Operation Barbarossa was an invasion of Russia by the Nazi Germans. Being an attack in World War 2, it was the largest. This invasion was based on the German Blitzkrieg. -

Japanese aircraft attacked Pearl Harbor naval base near Hawaii. The attack lasted nearly two hours. Over 2,000 american soldiers died with this invasion. Another 1,000 americans were wounded. -

This conference summonded fourteen men to represent the military and government. The main thought of this conference was to make sure the men knew their job and what was to come of it. -

This battle was fought near the pacific island, Midway. Japan captured territories throughout Asia. Japan planned to destroy the American naval fleet. After Midway, America took on the offence of the battle. -

This battle was a turning point in WW2. German army advanced to Stalingrad but Russians had already destroyed it. Germans main goal was to take over the oil fields. Most bruttle war of WW2. -
Warsaw Ghetto uprising
The Jews in the ghetto were kept in comcentration camps for a long period of time. They werre under attack and had managed save a few thousand grenades and a few hundred rifles, revolvers, and pistols. The Jews were armed with just a 2 or 3 machine guns and the Germans planned to wipe them out in 3 days. -
Operation Gomorrah
On this day, British bombers bombed Germany on the outskirts of Hamburg. During this operation, Americans attacked it throughout the day. -
D-Day
Allied troops fought Nazi Germany on the beach of Normandy, France. Eisenhower stated that we would except nothing less than full victory. 9,000 Allies were killed but over 100,000 kept marching throughout Europe. -
Battle of the Bulge
Hitler demanded to split the Allies forces by surprise. This was another form of the Blitzkrieg. -
Operation Thunderclap
Saxony, Dresden was attacked three times at night. This attack involved 1,000 bombers. The city was left to ruins. -
Battle of Iwo Jima
United States wanted Iwo Jima because of the location. Iwo Jima provided landing strip during combat. Also allowed for sea blockades. -
VE Day
Announced the end of WW2 in Europe. On the seventh day, Germany surrendered. -
Battle of Okinawa
Last battle of the Pacific. The air bases were on trial due to the battle. Also the most difficult campaign in WW2. -
Potsdam Declaration
The potsdam declaration set out the terms for the formal surrender of Japan. The goal was to destroy Japan's war making power. -
Atomic Bomb
President Truman demanded to drop the Atomic Bomb when the Japanese rejected the Potsdam Decloration. The first bomb was dropped on Hiroshima. This bomb took out 70,000 residents. Three days later, Nagasaki was bombed too. -
VJ Day
Japan surrendered to the Allies. VJ stands for victory over Japan. WW2 would be over after this day.
