  • Japanese invasions of China

For this reason Japan initiated a full blown invasion on China. Japan used the land they conquered, Manchuria, as their launch base for their troops. 5 months into the war approximately 1 million Chinese people were under the rule of Japanese control. This resulted in a clash between the Guomintang & the communists.
  • Rape of Nanking

    In the year 1937 on December 13, Japanese troops invaded the Chinese city of Nanking. Over the six week period of time that the Japanese troops invaded more than hundreds of thousands of of soliders and civilians were killed, between 20,000 and 80,000 women were sexually assaulted, and the capital of Nationalist China was left to decay.   • Germany's invasion of Poland

    On September 1, 1939 around 4:45 am, Germany and its troops invaded Poland along its 1,750 mile border they shared. Germany's Luftwaffe bombed Poland's airfields, attacked Poland's naval forces in the Baltic Sea with their warships and u-boats.Hitler's whole purpose of motivation to attack Poland was to bring "Lebensraum", living space for the German people.

  • German Blitzkrieg

    German's used the military tactic blitzkrieg, if executed correctly would result into the preservation of human life and limits the expenditure of artillery to invade Poland in 1939. The Germans planned to try this first on Poland and then use the same tactics to inavde Belgium, the Netherlands, and France.

  • Operation Barbarossa

    Hitler launched this attack sending his armies eastward in a massive invasion of the Soviet Union. The invasion reached a total distance of two miles starting from a front of the North Cape to the Black Sea. The invasion of Barbarossa was the main turning point of WW2. Due to the spring thaw all operations came to a halt. Resulting to Barbarossa failing and a two-front war Nazi Germany wouldn't win.

  • Pearl Harbor

    American naval base located in Pearl Harbor near Honolulu, Hawaii was attacked by hundreds of Japanese fighter planes just before 8 am. Even though the attack only lasted two hours it was tragic. The Japanese managed to destroy 20 American naval vessels, 200 airplanes, killed more than 2,000 American soliders, and wounded 1,000 other soliders. December 11 Japanese allies Germany and Italy declared war against US.

  • Wannsee Conference

    The Wannsee Conference gathered 15 high-ranking Navi Part and government officials at a villa in the Berlin suburbof Wannsee, to talk about the "Final Solution of the Jewish Question". The systematic, deliberate physical annihilation of the European Jews was the "Final Solution". The whole purpose of the conference was to reach the policy that aimed at the "Final Solution".

  • Battle of Stalingrad

    Battle of Stalingrad
    During WW2, The Battle of Stalingrad was known as the successful Soviet defense of the citry of Stalingrad. This battle stopped the Germans from advancing into the Soviet Union, marking the turnpoint of the war favoring the Allies. Alot of historians believed it was the greatest battle of the entire conflict. On the Soviet side, they believed that there were 1,100,000 Red Army either dead or wounded.

  • Warsaw Ghetto uprising

    Many of the jews that lived were tired of of the Germans and tried to organize resistance against the Germans and protect themselves with either smuggled of homemade weapons. 755 jews in the warsaw ghetto stood up and fought the armded and well-trained German soliders on April 19. Even though they were able to fight for about a month, the revolt ended on May 16. About 56,000 jews were captured.

  • Operation Gomorrah

    By night, in OPeration Gomorrah, British bombers Hamburg, Germany. Then Germany bombed Britain. However, the evening of July 24 British aircrafts dropped 2,300 bombs on Hamburg killing more than 1,500 German civilians. These attacks on Hamburg lasted until November of that year which included more than 9,000 tons of explosives dropped, 30,000 people killed,& 280,000 buildings destroyed.

  • Allied Invasion of Italy

    Field Marshal Bernard L. Montgomery began the Allied invasion of Italy, crossing from Sicily and landing at Calabria-the "toe" of Italy. Italy agreed to surrender secretly on the day of landing to the Allies' terms. On May 7 all of Germany surrendered.

  • D-Day (Normandy Invasion)

    This battle foreshadowed the end of Hitler's dream of Navi domination. It was the largest air,land, and sea operation that ever happened before and since June 6, 1944. Soliders were faced with over 200 yards of beach before reaching any type of protection from the enemy. When the battle ended, the Allied forces suffered more than 4,000 deaths trying to invade Normandy.

  • Battle of the Bulge

    The Battle of the Bulge was Hitler's last greatest offensive on the Western front through the Ardennes. This battle lasted up to 5 weeks ans is known as the Battle of the Bulge due to the wedge driven into the Allied lines. The Germans totally surprised the US by taking about 10,000 American prisoners, which was the largest surrender of the US forces since Bataan, in the Philippines.

  • Operation Thunderclap

    The whole plan behind Operation Thunderclap had been to bomb the eastern-most cities to disrupt the transportation infrastructure which was becoming the Eastern front, demonstrate to the German people that the air defences were now of little substance, amd that the Nazi regime had failed them.

    Battle of Iwo Jima
    The American purpose of this whole battle was formed for the need of a base near the Japanese coast. Even though the Japanese defended itself through 23,000 army and navy troops, the marines took down the Japanese after a month of fighting. 5,900 of Americans were killed.

    Battle of Okinawa
    The Battle of Okinawa came about because the Allied forces wanted to capture an island near Japan to serve as an air base. So they decided to land on Okinawa. This battle was one the longest and costliest battles of the Pacific. Which resulted in 110,071 Japanese people killed and 12,520 Americans killed.

  • Liberation of concentration camps

    Awarness was of Nazi's brutality was broadened in 1945. One of the six concentration camps that was also one of the last ones still operating at the end of the war was the one located in Auschwitz. These concentration camps were equipted with gas chambers and large crematorias. Over 3 million of the jews in these six camps were perished there.

    Both United States and Great Britain celebrate Victory in Europe on May 8th 1945. People in both cities put out their flags and banners rejoicing in the defeat against the Nazi war machine. The eight represents the day Germany finally surrenders and laid down their arms.

  • Dropping the atomic bombs

    When the dropping of the atomic bombs were dropped by the Unites States, it was the first and only to use atomic weaponry during the wartime on the city of Hiroshima in Japan. The first dropped on Japan was to have a speedy end which would save alot of American lives. The second time the atomic bombs were dropped was to show the Soviet Union the new weapon of mass destruction.

    VJ Day
    After a long six years, Japan has fianlly surrendered to the Allies. Around the world August 15 is known for joy, celebration, and Victory of Japan. President Truman made the announcement at a conference. He said that the goverment of Japan had agreed to the Potsdam Declaration which demanded the full surrendering of Japan.
