    The assassination of Archduke Ferdinand occured in Sarajevo. He was assassinated by Gavrilo Princip who was apart if the Black Hand. The reasoning behind the assassination was because he was seen as a perceived threat to Serbian independence.

    Austria-Hungary Declares War on Serbia
    This declaration of war was the first of World War 1. Austria-Hungary declaring war started a domino effect because of treaties other countries had with them. The declared war because they were dissatisfied with Serbia's response to their ultimatum.

    Germany had ties with Austria-Hungary and was forced into the war by a treaty. They joined in directly after Russia and declared war on them. Germany joining the war is when countries really started piling up.

    The Battle of Tannenberg was fought between Germany and Russia at Poland. The war ended with a German victory after they only lost 13,000 casualties.

    France and Germany met at Verdun in 1916. Germans set the initial attack, but the tides turned. Lots of land was destroyed as a result of this war, and a lot of soldiers lost their lives.

    Britain, France, and Germany fought in France. The machine gun was introduced and the Western Front was a key to the war.

    The Germans wrote a note to the Mexicans asking them to keep the United States out of the war. The note was intercepted however, and the United States were forced into the war because of it.

    Wilson's Fourteen Points
    Wilson's 14 points were set points to hopefully prevent this from ever happening again. Points 1-5 were specifically designed for that, points 6-13 rebuilt Europe, and point 14 created the League of Nations

    The United States, Britain, and France met up to discuss peace after the war. At the conference Germany was deemed mainly responsible and the countries worked out different ways to negatively affect Germany as a result.
