British troops lead by Duke of Wellington confronted Napoleon's army at Waterloo. After heavy fighting Napoleon fled to a port and tried to escape to America but was caputured and sent to Saint Helena. The defeat ended his massive campaign. -
Tokugawa Shogunate ends
Agricultural production lagged. Despite efforts at "fiscal reform" opposition weakend the Tokugawa. Two powerful anti-Tokugawa clans, the Choshu and Satsuma, combined forces to topple the shogunate, and the following year declared an “imperial restoration”.
