    President Truman established a policy known as the Truman Doctrine. He once said " It must be the policy of the United States to support free peoples who are resisting attempted subjugation by armed minorities outside pressures".

    Marshall Plan
    The Marshall plan was also called The European Recovery program. Marshall believed that communism was successful in countries with economic problems.
  • Berlin Blockade

    Berlin Blockade
    The Berlin Blockade was made by the Soviet union to block the entrance to Berlin. This was when Germany was spit up into smaller countries and the Soviet Union cut off the allied supplies to west berlin. The blockade was finished 12 may 1949.

    The United States and British airplanes fly into west berlin due to the blockade that east Berlin made.

    Joseph Stalin died on March 5th 1953 at the age of 74.He suffered from atherosclerosis from his heavy smoking, a mild stroke around the time of the Victory Parade, and a severe heart attack in October 1945.

    Gary Powers who was an American U-2 pilot, decided to do a very dangerous mission and fly a spy plane over the USSR. Which ended up getting shot down by the USSR. Gary lived and the USSR had him and we don't know what they said to him or what they got out of him. We ended up retirning their spy if they would give us ours back, and they did.

    The president at this time was John F. Kennedy and he gave orders for the Bay of pigs invasion. Cuban exile would invade Cuba and lead revolt against Castro. The Bay of pigs invations was a huge fail.

    Nikita Khrushchev who was the leader of the soviet union realized that he needs to stop the refugees from east Germany through west berlin. In August of 1961 they decided to build the berlin wall separating west berlin with east Berlin. The Berlin wall was finished in 1992. Then the destruction date is November 9 1989

    Cuban Missile Crisis
    The USSR wanted to bring nuclear weapons to Cuba, and was on ships carrying missiles headed for Cuba. Which is right off the coast of Florida. President Kennedy ordered USA to make a blockade that blocked the Cuban Ports. Khrushchev who was the leader of the Soviet Union at the time agreed to turn the ships around and Kennedy agreed not to invade Cuba.

    This war lasted 10 years with the USSR against Afghan rebels. Between 850,000–1.5 million civilians were killed and millions of Afghans fled the country as refugees.
  • Fall of the Berlin Wall

    Fall of the Berlin Wall
    The Berlin Wall between East Germany and West Germany was torn down. It was torn down by cranes and even the people. Once the wall was down the people were finally reunited with their families after almost 30 years.
