    The triangular trade route where millions of Africans were sold into slavery. It involved the new world, Western Europe, and Africa. Life was terrible for the slaves on the ships and many died.

    Bloody Sunday
    In St. Petersburg, Russia, many unarmed protesters were attacked and fried upon. They were attacked by members of the Imperial Gaurd while trying to present a petition to Tsar Nicholas II of Russia. Although it was many years before the revolution, it opened many eyes to the cruelty of the Russian leadership.

    Assassination of Archduke Ferdinand
    Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria was shot and killed by Gavrilo Princip. Princip was a Bosnian Serb and a member of the Black Hand. This event, along with tight tension between many countries, was the cause of Wprld War I.
  • Lusitania sinks

    Lusitania sinks
    The Lusitania was a Cunard ocean liner. It was torpedoed by a German U-boat. 1,198 people died when it sunk, including 7 Americans. This caused the US to get involved in WWI.

    Zimmerman Telegram
    This was a secret communication between Germany and Mexico. It included Germany asking Mexico to invade the US. This was another cause that made the US join the war.

    The events took place near St. Petersburg, which was the capital of Russia at the time. The people were protesting the food rations and got quite violent. Even soldiers joined this revolution, which shows how unjust the rulers were.

    This peace treaty brought an end to WWI. It was very unfair towards Germany and ruined their economy. As a result of this, Hilter rose to power and eventually started WWII.

    During WW2 the Nazis persecuted the Jews and put them in concentration camps. Over 6 million Jews were killed and 17 million victims overall. The UN established Israel as a safe haven for Jews after this.

    Hitler invaded Poland, after promising not to interfere with them. Germany and the Soviet Union both invaded Poland. It ended with the Soviet Union dividing and annexing all of Poland.

    D-Day
    On this day Allied forces invaded Normandy. This was also called Operation Overlord and it was the largest amphibious attack in history. This was the greatest victory for the Allied forces and was soon followed by victory in Europe.

    Atomic bombings
    The US dropped two atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Over 80,000 people died during the bombings, mostly civilians. This was one of the most controversial descions made by the US and I still still debated today.

    A policy in Africa that segregated the everyone. It put white people above all others. It was eventually disbanded after many people realized it was wrong and stood up.

    Israel was established as a safe haven for Jews after the Holocaust. Land that already belonged to Palestine wasn't taken away and made Israel. This land was known as the promised land in their religions and is fought over constantly.

    A war between North Korea and South Korea. North Korea wanted to enforce communism on South. The US sided with South to help fight the spread on communism. At the end neither side won and Korea was split evenly.

    A wall was put up in Berlin to split the East from the West. East Berlin was the communist side and west was capitalist. There were many advocaters to tear the wall down, as it was a sign of the divide in the world.

    Nelson Mandela Impropisoned
    Nelson Mandela was an anti-aparthied leader in Africa. He was imprisoned for blowing up railroad tracks. He spent most of his life in prison but was eventually freed and became the presidnet of South Africa.

    This was during the Cold War and between the US and the Soviet Union. It last 13 days and involved the Soviet Union keeping nuclear weapons in Cuba. This was a point with very high tensions and the climax of the war.

    Iraq, under the leadership of Saddam Hussein, invaded Kuwait. The US got involved for about a year. Their only goal was to free the country of Kuwait. We were successful in freeing this nation.
  • 9/11

    9/11
    Two planes were crashed into the twin towers. The US tracked the attacks back to Al Queada and blamed Afghanistan for funding them. This is recognized as a national tragedy and many people believe Bush had something to do with it.
