Art began to evolve
The art in the renaissance changed from being simple to being more complex. Perspective was added to the paintings making the paintings look more realistic.The art started to imitate nature, and landscape was added to the paintings. Some Italian artists that their paintings show examples of this are Leonardo Da Vinci, Michelangelo, Donatello. Some Northern European artists that show the evolution of the paintings are Jan Van Eyck and Roger Van Der Weyden. -

Johannes Gutenberg invented the printing press. The first book that was printed was the bible in German. -

Martin Luther
He was a Catholic monk who was very devoted to God. He started to have issues with the current Catholic church in their terms of receiving salvation. He wrote 95 thesis that had what he found wrong with the Catholic church. These 95 thesis got him excommunicated from the church. He then started his own church called Lutheranism. It quickly spread throughout Germany and Scandinavia. Lutheranism was the first protestant religion. -

He was converted to Protestantism at age 25. He believed that the catholic church had fallen far from the original Christian church. So he created his own church called Predestination. In this religion you had free will to choose good or evil. You could do good works to get elected to do something. A government was set up in Geneva based on John's beliefs. -

Counter Reformation
The Catholic church realized that Protestantism needed to be countered. One of the popes that helped with this was Pope Paul the third he served the church in 1534 to 1549. -

Council of trent
The council looked at doctrine practices then tried to clarify them. They emphasized the teaching of the doctrine to the young, but also wanted to teach it to all Christians. Instead of unifying all Christians it emphasized the differences between the Christians. -
