Fair Labor Standards Act
This act was signed in 1938 by Franklin D. Roosevelt. This established a minimum wage, a standardized work week, a requirement to pay overtime, and a prohibition on child labor. This also created a Wage and Hours Division within the United States Department of Labor. -
Equal Pay Act
The Equal Pay Act of 1963 was signed by John F. Kennedy in 1963. One of the first anti-discrimination laws in the United States. It addresses the pay difference for men and women who perform the same jobs. This makes it illegal to pay someone a different amount depending on their gender. -
Civil Rights Act Signed
The Civil Rights Act of 1964 was signed by President Lyndon B. Johnson. This prohibits discrimination more specifically employment discrimination with the Title VII section based on gender, race, color, religion, or national origin. -
Age Discrimination in Employment Act
This law prohibits age discrimination in the workplace for those 40 years old or older from aspects of employment due to age. Hiring, firing, bonuses, promotions, training, and others are all portions of jobs that are not to be affected by one's age. -
Rehabilitation Act
This Rehabilitation Act signed by ... was put in place in order for the U.S. government to not discriminate against those with disabilities. In 2010 Barack Obama signed in section 510 The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. -
Pregancy Discrimination Act
This amends the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to add the prohibition of companies discriminating against hiring or continued employment based on pregnancy. -
Americans with Disabilities Act
George H.W. Bush signs the American With Disabilities Act to enforce Title I of the ADA to prohibit private employers, state and governments, unions, and employment agencies from discriminating against people with disabilities. -
Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act
This Act was established to prohibit employment discrimination on genetic information especially when it comes to health insurance and employment. -
Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act
This is the first bill that was signed by President Barack Obama and states that there is a 180-day statute of limitations for filing an equal-pay lawsuit. Also modifies the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.
