People broke the law to try and bring attention to that law and get it changed. -
Carry Nation and the WCTU
Women wanted prohibition, the banning of alcoholic beverages. By 1911 the there was 245,000 members of the WCTU the largest women's group in the nations history. They followed Willar's slogan "do everything" and visited inmates in prison and asylums and worked for suffrage. The settlement house movement provided women with public roles. -
NAWSA Formed
Founded by Susan B. Anthony, and Elibeth Cady Stanton. National Women Suffrage Association, which then united with another group and became the NAWSA. -
Carrie Chapman Catt and New NAWSA Tactics
She supported the movement and tried to encourage others to do the same. Women were allowed to vote in selected states but it wasnt good enough for her she pushed on and won. -
19th Amendment
granted women the right to vote . The amendment won final ratification in August 1920, 72 years after women had first convened and demanded the right to vote.
