The President's Commission on the Status of Women was created in 1961. Eleanor Roosevelt was appointed as chairwoman and helped create improvement among woman in the workplace such as, fair hiring practices, paid maternity leave, and affordable child care. -
Equal Pay Act
The Equal Pay Act was passed, making it illegal for employers to pay a woman less than what he/she pays a man. -
Civil Rights Act
Part of the Civil Rights Act bill was passed to prevent discrimination of race and sex amongst employment. -

NOW was created by a group of feminists to end sexual discrimination in the workplace. It is one of the largest women's rights group in the U.S. -
The Equal Rights Amendment
The ERA was passed by congress so that women shall not be denied equal rights under the law. Unfortunately, the amendment was dismissed in 1982 after it failed to receive ratification from all states. -
United States vs. Virginia
In 1996, the supreme court rules that the Virginia Military School has to be open to women as well in order to continue receiving public funding. -
Armed Services
As of January 2, 2016, women are allowed to serve in any branch in the armed services. -
