Valentina Tereshkova
The first woman in space, Valentina Tereschkova, flew aboard the Vostok 6 on 16 June 1963. Over the course of the 70.8 hour flight she made 48 orbits of Earth. She was selected from more than 400 applicants. -
Svetlana Savitskaya
On 19 August 1982 Svetlana Savitskaya became the second woman in space. She flew aboard the Soyuz T-7 spacecraft that docked with the Salyut 7 space station. On her second spaceflight, on 25 July 1984, she became the first woman to conduct an EVA(Extravehicular Activity).
