    Revived women's movement
    The revival of the women's movement was created by a book that Betty Friedman had written in 1963. Before this, however, she conducted a survey on women, just like her who had graduated from college. To her surprise, she found that most women were not happy with their lives, because most of them became stay-at-home wives. Using this knowledge she was able to write a book titled The Feminine Mystique, in which she talks about how some women feel trapped in their domestic life.
  • Equal pay act

    Equal pay act
    This act stated that it would be illegal for employers to pay female workers less than male workers for the same job. This act had very little impact, but it paved the way for equality in the workplace.
  • Title VII

    Title VII
    During the civil rights, movent female members of Congress presented a bill that outlawed sexual discrimination in employment. This act also created the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, which was in charge of making sure employers followed this law.

    NOW
    This was an organization, made by women, that tried to influence elected officials to ensure social and economic equality for women.
  • A new generation

    A new generation
    During this time Gloria Steinem was one woman who inspired others to speak about women's rights. She was a founding member of the National Women's Political Caucus, this organization encouraged women to run for political office.
