    Early Life
    William Golding was born in Cornwall, England, in 1911. His father greatly influenced William's thinking, his father was a schoolteacher and as a child, William attended his school. After primary school, he attended Brasenose College in Oxford, where he studied English Literature.

    Careers
    At first, Golding worked in theatre, but later on decided to become a school teacher teaching unruly kids which did in fact influence his most famous novel Lord of the Flies. However, after a few years he took a break from his tiresome career and joined the Royal Navy, where he spent 6 years of his life mostly on a boat sailing. He helped to sink other battleships during World War 2, not only that but helping to be a sailor which also very much influenced his fictional story, Lord of the Flies.

    Lord of the Flies
    Later on in his life, he wrote the famous novel Lord of the Flies. Then in 1963, after Golding retired from teaching, Peter Brook created a film of the acclaimed novel. About two decades later, at the age of 73, Golding was awarded the 1983 Nobel Prize for English Literature. Then in 1988, he was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II.

    Death
    As he was nearing the end of his life he spent it mostly with his wife, Ann Brookfield, and his children. He continued writing plays, essays, books, poems, and more. Golding died on June 19, 1993, of a heart attack, however, his legacy still lives on.
