    William Gerald Golding was born in Cornwall, England, in 1911. His mom was a strong supporter of the British suffragette movement, while is dad was a schoolteacher. Golding attended school where his dad taught.

    golding attended brasenose college at oxford in 1930. he was studying science but switched to literature in his 3rd year. many of golding's poems were published as a part of macmillan's contemporary poet series. in 1935, he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English and a diploma in education.
