WHAP Post Classic Time Line

  • Period: 200 to 1500

    Post classical Japan

    Similar to the Swahili City States and other great post-classical civilizations, Japan was set up with many mini-kingdoms; which each had its own small scale economy. Japan also had a prodominat religion, similar to many other empires, except in japan the primary religion was Buddhism.
  • Period: 330 to 1453

    Byzantine Empire

    Much like other great empires in this time period, the Byzantine Empire had a large trade economy for many centuries. Constantinople was a prime hub in a trading network that at various times extended across nearly all of Eurasia and North Africa.
  • Period: 661 to 750

    Umayyad dynasty

    The Umayyad Dynasty was the first great Muslim dynasty to rule the empire of the caliphate, sometimes referred to as the Arab kingdom. Like any great civilization, The Umayyad dynasty enabling the creation of a united empire, through greater control of the conquered provinces and of Arab tribal rivalries. The Umayyad dynasty also traded with other civilizations throughout the Indian Ocean trade routes.
  • Period: 1206 to 1526

    Delhi Sultanates

    Throughout this time period, there were many different dynasties. Each one acoomplishing differnt things. The goal of Khiji Dynasty was to unite India, much like in many African empires formed from the uniting of tribes under one king. The Delhi Sultanates also somewhat crossed grnder norma at this time period when Razia Sultana ruled as one of the only female rulers in islamic history.
  • Period: 1206 to 1368

    Mongolian Empire

    The Mongolian Empire had a large trade route and helped to facilitate trade throughout the East, West, and Middle East. Also, much like other Post classical empires, the empire grew rapidly uniting other nations; some of which are still nations today. Also similar to other kingdoms or empires during this time period to Mongolian empire was eventually divided and ruled by seperate leaders; making the mongols similar to the Swahili City states in that regard.
  • Period: 1235 to

    the Mali Empire

    The Mali empire was known for its major influence in trade throughout Africa and the Middle East. Also, much like other governments at that time, there was a somewhat strict cate system; in adition, islam became the dominate religion. However contrary to many other empires during this time period the mali did not force people to convert.
  • Period: 1300 to 1521

    Aztec Empire

    Much like other civilizations mentioned in this timeline, the Aztecs did not directly rule all the people of their empire. Instead, they were allowed to govern themselves as long as the sent tribute to Tenochtitlan. Although it is not aparent that there was one perdoninate religion there were many religions that shared similar aspeects.
  • Period: 1368 to

    Ming Dynasty

    Much like other great empires at this time, the Ming Dynasty had a great interest in trade with other parts of the world. In fact, the Ming Dynasty earned a lot of money from trading goods to the Europeans. Unfortunately when Emperor Yongle died the so did funding and interest in exploration, travel, and large-scale trade with other countries.
