The Native Americans resisted the act, but in the end they were forced to move west because the Americans wanted to move into their territory. -

The U.S government forced the Cherokees to leave their lands in Georgia. The Trail of Tears became known as the Cherokees westward journey to Oklahoma. Nearly a quarter of the Cherokees died during their journey due to diseases and harsh weather conditions. -
