    The Louisiana Purchase included almost 828,000 square miles that the United States bought from France in 1803. The land was bought for 4 cents an acre and had a total cost of 15 million dollars.

    The War of 1812 was between the United States and the British. This war was also know as the second American Revolution because of the British wanting to take back the colonies. The war lasted from 1812-1815 and ended with a treaty named the "Treaty of Ghent". There were 2 new leaders that emerged, Henry Clay and Andrew Jackson.

    The Missouri Compromise was a law passed by the government to give equal power to slave owning states and free states. The free states were afraid of being over powered by the other states.

    The Oregon Trail was an overland route that stretched about 2,000 miles from Independence, Missouri, tot the Columbia River in Oregon. Lewis & Clark set out on an expedition with other explorers to look for a way to get to Oregon easier then before.

    The one thing that Mexico wanted was independence and better conditions for New Spain. They finally got there wish in 1824 when Mexico defeated Spain and becomes an independent nation. The first battle of the Texas Revolution took place in Gonzales in October 1835, the Mexican army attempted to take a cannon from their town. The next battle was at the Alamo, an old Spanish mission, on February 23rd, 1826 and lasted 13 days.

    On January 24th, 1848 a worker near Sutter's Mill made an amazing discovery in California, it was gold. Gold wasn't a common thing to find until the 80,000 gold-seekers moved to California in 1849 and hit the mother-load.
