  • The Birth of Niels Bohr

On October 7th 1885 Niels Bohr was born. The son of his father Christian Bohr, and His Mother Ellen nee Adler. During this time his father was a Professor of Physiology at Copenhagen University. Due to his Fathers work as a professor it helped spur Bohr into the field of science.

  • Education

During this time Niels Bohr entered Copenhagen University. During this time he came under the guidance of Professor C. Christiansen in the field of Physics. During this time at Copenhagen University he would earn his Masters Degree in Physics in 1909, and go on to earn his Doctorate Degree in Physics in 1911.
  • The Atomic Structure Picture and Nobel Prize

From his earlier theoretical work on the absorption alpha rays. Bohr began to study the structure of atoms and using research from Rutherford's discovery of the atomic nucleus. During this process he introduced conceptions from the Quantum Theory as established by Planck. Upon his success he had presented a picture of the atomic structure that with some later improvements we still use today. This work would later earn him a Nobel Prize in 1922.
  • Contributions to Quantum Physics

Not only would Bohr work in the Atomic Realm he would also work towards contributing to Quantum Physics. Most particular he developed the concept of complementarity. This concept showed how deeply the changes in the field of physics had affected the fundamental features of our scientific outlook and the consequences that it had not only on the Atomic physics, but on all the domains of human knowledge. These views are covered in essays written from 1933-1962.
  • Liquid Droplet Theory

Furthering his atomic research he began to direct his focus on the constitution of the atomic nuclei. From this research he would develop the liquid droplet theory which would pave the way for the understanding of nuclear fission which was later discovered by Hahn and Strassmann in 1939.
