  • Mills vs. Board of Education of the District of Columbia

    • This case includes not only developmental disabilities but also behavioral, mental, hyperactive, and emotional disabilities as well. It argues that none of the above disabilities will be denied placement in public education.
    • The court ruled that no child may be denied public education because of mental, behavioral, physical or emotional handicaps.
  • Board of Education vs. Rowley

    • The parents of a deaf child wanted a sign language interpreter in all of their daughter's classes.
    • The court ruled that children with disabilities were entitled to access to education. They are not obligated to provide all necessary means to maximize each child's potential.
  • Timothy W. vs. Rochester, New Hampshire School District

    • He appealed an order that says a child that is profoundly handicapped is not eligible for special education if they cannot benefit from the education.
    • The decision was reversed and stated that the Education For All Handicapped Children Act is to assure all handicapped children have access to free public education. This free public education will give the special education children services related to meet their needs.
