Aqueducts in Rome
Tunnels that could be 57 miles long. It traveled underground through a cover trenches. Water would be taken to the town's public baths/fountains. This was in the year of 312 B.C -
Wooden Pipes
Boston was the first city to begin using wooden pipes. This was very unsanitary as the wood could stagnate the water and infest the water with insects. -
Iron pipes
Philedelphia was the first city to use iron pipes. This led to an increase in dependance in plumbing -
First Drinking Water system is Installed
Chicago made the first city water tower and water heaters were installed into homes. Also William E. Sloan invents the fluchometer valve in 1906. This meant waste removal from toilets would no longer be dependent on gravity since pressure could take could of it. -
Plastic Pipes
Plastic became the use of modern day plumbing since the supply of copper pipes was scarce. -
Safe Water Drinking Act
Water quality had to meet certain certifications before it could be distributed. -
Lead Contamination Control Act
Schools and daycares centers had to have the water tested to make sure there wasn't any lead contamination in the drinking water. -
