Indians in northern Wyoming tempt Fetterman and his soldiers into a deadly ambush. the Indians began to take revenge by attacking whites all across the Plains, including the emigrants traveling the Bozeman trail.

2nd Treaty of Fort Laramie
The U.S. agreed to close the Bozeman Trail, abandon the forts. and provide reservation land to the Sioux Indians. The U.S. kept negotiating with various groups to move them of of their lands.

Gold was discovered in the Black Hills Custer confirmed that the gold was there. Custer and his men tried to attack the Lakota Sioux and that started the Battle of Little Big Horn.

Sitting Bull surrenders to U.S. Army and goes to Standing Rock Reservation
Sitting Bull surrenders to the U.S. Army, which promises amnesty for him and his followers. Sitting Bull had been a major leader in the 1876 Sioux uprising that resulted in the death of Custer and 264 of his men at Little Bighorn.

Helen Hunt Jackson wrote a book, A Century of Dishonor, to push for reform of the U.S's Indian policy. Some reformers felt that Native Americans should adopt the ways of white people.

Sitting Bull performs in Wild West Show with Buffalo Bill Cody
Buffalo Bill, who rode for the Pony Express, fought in the American Civil War, also created a Wild West show. Lakota Sioux chief Sitting Bull was part of the cast for four months in 1885, and since then, they had created a strange friendship.

The Ghost Dance predicted the coming of paradise for Native Americans. U.S. Government did not understand this movement and feared it.

Sitting Bull Death at Standing Rock Reservation
After many years of successfully resisting white efforts to kill Sitting Bull and the Sioux people, Sitting Bull is killed by Indian police at the Standing Rock Reservation. After Sitting Bull was Killed he was buried in South Dakota.

Massacre at Wounded Knee
On December 29, the U.S. Army surrounded a band of Ghost Dancers near Wounded Knee Creek and demanded they surrender their weapons. As that was happening, a fight broke out between an Indian and a U.S. soldier and a shot was fired.
