Columbus Discovers the New World
Christopher Columbus travels for many years and then 'discovers' AmericaColumbus finds the new world and sees that it is inhabited by the original Americans; imedietly he sees them as savages and inslaves them. -
May 1, 1519
Hernan Cortes and the Aztecs
Cortes had known about the Aztecs and wanted to be their leader. He traveled to Mexico and was greeted like a god. Cortes arival had falled around the time the Aztecs god was supposed to return to Earth. The Aztecs belief that he was a god and his different aperence helped him take over the Aztecs. -

Bartolome de Las Casas Criticizes the Spanish
artolome De Las Casa was a critical writer. Through his writings he offended many. In 1552 he managed to offended the Spanish with his criticisms. The Spanish demanded that his writings be banned. -
Founding of Jamestown
In honor of Queen Elizibeth the Virgina Company of England traveled to Virgina. On this day they established the first permenant settlement from England. -

King Philip’s War
The Wampanoag surrender under the Kings orders but the King still has people watching the Native Americans. The informer is murdered and three people are punished this starts a fued with leads to a war. -
Bacon’s Rebellion
Nathaniel Bacon lead a group of rebels to fight for lower taxes and prices on tobacco. Bacon also had many other demands, all of which were ignored and the rebellion ended in 1677 with the loss of the rebels. -

1754 to 1763 French and Indian War
The French and Indian war caused the English to gain more land but they also almost went backrupt. It also lead to the American Revolution. The war started becuase of France and Britan fighting over land and ended with the Treaty of Paris. -
Pontiac’s War
When France was forced to give up some land to the British the inhabitants of this land were not happy with the changes in leadership. Pontiac started a rebellion agaisnt the new leadership and was foiled when the british general discovered his plan. The british were waiting for the attacks but they didn't expect the other forts to be attacked aswell. These seiges began an all out war that ended in a peace treaty -
Proclamation of 1763
The new settlers coming from the French and Indian war weren't always welcome in the new settlements. Many different fueds were started and tribes were offended. A plan was eventually drawn up the allow everyone the right to have their land and not have to fight private owners. -
Treaty of Paris
This event caused the American Revolution to finally end.
England had already recognized it's 13 colonies as independent this was the final step before America was finally a free nation. -
Treaty of Greenville
This Treaty ended the Northwest Indian War. The treaty established a treaty line which was a boundry between the Northwest Indians and the European Americans. The European-Americans refused to abide by this line. It also gave the Native Americans a yearly grant system. -
Louisiana Purchase
A massive land sale known as the Lousiana Purchase that double Americas land. We gained all the land between Mississippi and the Rocky Mountians. -

Lewis and Clark Expedition
Lewis and Clark were sent on a two and a half year journey to find a quicker route across the country. Lewis and Clark found many towns and land marks that we know today they also picked up two informed Candians to help lead them across the country. -

Tecumseh and The Prophet
Tecumseh and The Prophet (His brother) founded Prophetstown for people who believe signing treaties would infringe on their way of life. Tecumseh attempted to make the Ohio River the permenant border inbetween the Native Americans and the Europeans. The US Government didn't agree with the Natives not wanting to sign treaties so when Tecumseh was away from Prophetstown they destroyed it. -

Creek War
Jackson had to depoly two large task forces to handle a mass killing of Alabma settlers. Jackson was afraid that the natives would become allies with the spanish which would may result in them gathering against the southern US. -
Indian Removal Act
Andrew Jackson passed a law to relocate Indian tribes if needed. Some tribes moved without a fight and others made it difficult such as the Cherokee Indians who had to be forced to move west almost 4,000 died on the Trail of Tears -
Worcester v. Georgia
This court case made it so non-Native Americans could be on Native Americans land with out a license. They passed that it was unconstitutional aswell as that the US had no say in Native Americans affairs. -
Trail of Tears
After the Indian Removal Act was passed many Native Americans were forced to move west on the Trail of Tears. Over 4,000 died on the way west. By the end of that decade there was barely any tribes left in the Southeast. -
Oregon Trail
At this time this trail was the major route across the country. Over 400,000 people traveled this road by foot during this time period. -
Gold discovered in California
James Marshall discovered gold along Sutters Creek Californa. FInding gold in America changed the entire course of history. This opened up many oportunites for jobs and wealth. -
Passage of the Homestead Act
This act was supposed to grant land to farmers for a low cost, passed by President Lincoln. The act gave 160 acres of land away to any one who applied that was either head of his house and older than 21. -
Diminished Buffalo Herds
To the early settlers the buffalo were a vast source of food and skins. They had no clue that the rate that they were killing them was faster than they could reproduce. The buffalo soon couldn't keep up and their population was dimished enought to worry the settlers. -
Gold in the Black Hills, and the Ft. Laramie Treaty
The settlers had a passion for exploration which made the Natives uncomfortable because they wanted to protect their sacred lands. The search for gold carried the settlers all around the land and they tried to respect the natives land with the Ft. Laramie Treaty by staying out of the Black Hills. Although some couldn't help themselves and broke this treaty. -
Battle of Little Bighorn
The Battle of Little Bighorn was the biggest victory for the Natives and the worst loss for the settlers. This battle helped confirm many Americans views of the natives being savages. Because of this battle the government worked even harder to confine tribes to reservations. -
Nez Perce War
This war was caused by many 'nontreaty indians' not wanting to give up their land and move west. The Nez Perce put up a huge fight that turned into a war that lasted from June to October where the Nez Perce surrenders. -
Sand Creek Massacre
During the American and Indian wars a 700 men task force went and attacked a peaceful village; killing around 100 innocent Indians. Many of those who were killed were women and children.
