Who: Oliver Hazard Perry against the British.
What: Oliver captured an entire British fleet and resulted in the British’s defeat.
When: 10th of September, 1813
Where: Lake Erie
Why: Both opponents wanted control over Lake Erie because the rivers that flowed out of it were trade routes. Having control over the lake would give them control over trade. -
Battle of Horseshoe Bend
Who: Andrew Jackson against Red Sticks
What: Americans along with some Indian allies defeated the Red Sticks/Creeks and the tribe was forced to sign a treaty with the US.
When: On the 27th of March, 1814
Where: Alabama, Horseshoe Bend
Why: The Red Sticks did not want to give up their land to the Americans. -
British attack Washington DC
Who: British burned, James Madison left
What: The British burned down the White House and the Capitol building, forcing James Madison to flee for safety.
When: 25th of August 1814
Where: Washington DC, White House, Capitol
Why: The British came into the city holding a flag of truce. When the flag was shot at, the British were infuriated and burned the buildings. -
Attack on Fort McHenry
Who: Cohchrane and the British against Americans. Francis Scott Key.
What: Cohchrane planned to bomb the Fort because they couldn’t stop the American defenses.
When: On the 13th of September, 1814
Where: Baltimore, Fort McHenry
Why: Cohchane wanted to weaken the US’s lines and bring in more ships by silencing Fort McHenry. -

Battle of New Orleans
Who: Andrew Jackson was the commander (of Americans), Indians, African-Americans, Jean Lafitte (led pirates) and states Militia against the British.
What: Freed African American slaves, Choctaw Indians, states Militia, and pirates led by Jean Lafitte sided with the US.
When: On the 8th of January , 1815
Where: New Orleans
Why: The British wanted control over the Port of New Orleans so they could deny Americans to use it.
