    Impressment of U.S Sailors
    One of the biggest reasons that the U.S went to war against the British was because the impressment of U.S sailors. The British would seize American ships and force their sailors to work for the British instead.
    This is thought to be the reason why the U.S went to war with Britain instead of another country like France.
  • Washington Proclamation of Neutrality

    Washington Proclamation of Neutrality
    In response to the growing war in Europe, Washington decided to set a proclamation of neutrality to not further the growing debt the colonies were experiences at that time.
  • Jay Treaty

    Jay Treaty
    The Jay treaty was a way to diffuse the tensions between the U.S and Britain. This prevented further aggression between both sides, and stopped Britain from seizing U.S ships for a while.

    In George Washington's Farewell address, he warns the people of his country about the influential power of political parties and how they could divide them and turn them against each other. He also goes on to give out a similar warning about people's emotional connection to foreign countries such as Britain or France because it could also cause an immense divide.

    When the HMS Leopard wanted to inspect the U.S ship USS Chesapeake, the U.S ship refused and then got pursued and attacked by the HMS Leopard.

    Tecumseh was part of a group Native Americans that were mad about the U.S expansion westward and rallied an army together that allied itself with the British. His army was able to stand their ground in the Battle of Tippecanoe.

    War Hawks were actually a group of people of Congress that pressured James Madison to go to war against Britain in 1812. They eventually convinced Congress to vote for war.

    The War of 1812 started due to the rising tensions between the U.S and Great Britain. This was due to many reasons over sea.

    When Tecumseh died in the battle of the Thames, the alliance between Native Americans died as well.
  • Hartford Convention

    Hartford Convention
    A secret meeting between Federalists delegates in Hartford, Connecticut to discuss grievances and criticisms about the current president at that time, James Madison. They were specifically mad about the progression of the War of 1812, and how Madison handled it. Some were so extreme in their grievances, they brought up the idea of secession. Fortunately that didn't come to happen, and the Federalists decided to amend the Constitution to better fit their interests.
  • The Battle of New Orleans

    The Battle of New Orleans
    After defeating the French in war, the British could focus all their efforts to fighting the U.S. They had a plan to attack New Orleans, but Gen. Andrew Jackson hastily formed an army and somehow managed to defeat the more experienced British army. This victory was seen ultimate symbol of Democracy overcoming old European ideals by Americans. This was the last major armed engagement of the war.

    Treaty of Ghent
    This treaty officially ended the War of 1812. It repealed Great Britain's attempts to seize Northwest Territory and work toward ending the slave trade.
