    Impressment of Sailors

    British ships would seize American ships and take the sailors as prisoners and force them to work under the British Navy, against the sailors' own country, the United States.
  • Washington's Proclamation of Neutrality

    This declared America to be a neutral nation midst the conflicts between France and Britain. It didn't please France because they had the Treaty of Alliance together and it led to even more problems.
  • Jay Treaty

    This was the only other option other than war if Britain and America couldn't settle their differences that they have had since the Revolutionary War. It prevented war and maintained peace between the two nations until later conflicts.
  • Washington's Farewell Address

    This was the last public appearance as President of the United States and this is what he left the American people with. before John Adams took office.
  • Chesapeake-Leopard Affair

    An encounter of an American and British warship off the coast of Norfolk, Virginia. The HMS Leopard surprise attacked the American USS Chesapeake. The British took the victory, but they crew was captured and tried for the desertion of the Royal Navy.
  • Embargo Act of 1807

    President Thomas Jefferson's nonviolent resistance to Britain and France's impressment of American sailors and the seizing of American ships. It restricted trade with foreign nations, especially with France and Britain because of their conflicts.
  • Tecumseh

    He dislikes Americans because of the way they were treated and how they were forced out of their land, so he starts the movement and urges other Indians to unite together against the whites.
  • Tecumseh

    Tecumseh attempts to come to an agreement with Americans to stop them from pushing them even more farther west and to stop forcing them out of their land. His attempt fails and he flees north to unite with Britain against America.
  • War Hawks

    Republican Congressmen who demanded the United States to declare war against Great Britain, invade British Canada, and expel the Spanish from Florida.
  • War of 1812 Begins

    Ongoing conflicts between Britain and the United States finally pushed the boundaries and America declared war against Britain. A few of the conflicts were: the impressment of American sailors, the British blockade of France, and the British support of hostile Indian behavior towards Americans along the Great Lakes Frontier.
  • The Hartford Convention

    The purpose of this convention was for Federalists, who favored peace and trade with Britain, to draft a formal protest against the Federal Government's continual involvement of the War of 1812 to France's aid. The agreement was that the Federal Government would come to the New England states' aid of the economy because it was affected by the embargo and economic sanctions.
  • Treaty of Ghent

    Formally put an end to the War of 1812 and took place in Ghent, Belgium. News took about two months to make it back to America, but by then, the bloody Battle of New Orleans was already fought.
  • Battle of New Orleans

    This battle occurred after the war was officially over and I believe news hadn't reached the people who were going to fight this battle. What ended up happening is that the British were attempting to gain control of New Orleans, but General Andrew Jackson was like "nah fam, not today." The Americans won and Britain finally retreated ad accepted defeat.
