    Commander Oliver Hazard Perry was going to make a fleet and take the lake from the British. When the British ships came out to fight the Americans, Commander Perry and his ships destroyed the British naval force. Americans now had control over Lake Erie.

    The British and Native Americans tried to flee from Detroit. Harrison and his troops blocked them. During the battle Tecomseh was killed. Hopes for confederation to fight the United States ended for the Natives.

  • Battle at Lake Champlain

    British General Sir George Provost was moving into New York from Canada and was followed by more than 10,000 British soldiers. His goal was to capture Plattsburgh, an important city on the shore of Lake Champlain. An American naval force on the lake beat the British fleet. The British retreated into Canada. This battle convinced the British that the war was too costly and unnecessary. If they kept fighting the United States it would result in little gain and was not worth the effort.
  • Treaty of Ghent

    American and British representative met in Ghent, Belgium to sign a peace agreement. The Treaty of Ghent didn't change existing borders, and it didn't mention anything about imprisonment of sailors. Neutral rights had become not important since Napoleons defeat.
  • Battle at New Orleans

    The British marched to New Orleans. Andrew Jackson and his troops were waiting for them there. Soldiers were no match for Jackson's soldiers. The American troops hid behind thick cotton bales the veils absorbed the bullets. Hundred of British soldiers were killed. The Americans had won a great victory.
