british started to board americans ships, when the war was over it was officaly called "the war of 1812". they knew the war wasnt gonna be easy. the house voted 79 to n49 in favor of war. they wanted to win additional land for the USA. -
battle of lake erie
americans set out to win control of lake erie, oliver hazard had a very small fleet, and hadto build there own ships. during battle the british damaged perrys ship so bad it was helpess. the americans won. he wrote back to the president saying they have won. -
waashington D.C attacked and burned
the british sailed through cheapsake bay, 30 miles away from W.D.C. most of americans were untrained. dolley madison waited for her husband to return. once the british marched into the capital dolley left. they started marching north to baltimore. -
writing the star spangled banner
when the battle was over, the fog lifted. and the american flag was stil above f. mc .henry. the british withdrew the battle. the star spangled banner became the national anthem. francis scott key wrote the poem. -

andrew jackson lead the battle.
