    The impressment of sailors was when the British seized American sailors from their trading ships and forced them to join the British Navy.
  • Washington Proclamation of Neutrality

    This was an announcement by George Washington which declared the U.S a neutral power in the war between France and Britain. He wanted to keep the U.S out of a war they weren't prepared for.
  • Jay Treaty

    Jays Treaty was signed by the U.S and Great Britain and it allowed free trade and economic base for the U.S to avoid war.
  • Washington farewell address

    Washington's farewell address was his farewell to the U.S from his presidency and he advised the Americans to be wary of political factions as they may be the end of the U.S. He also warned them on foreign relations, telling them to not have permanent alliances.
  • Embargo Act

    An act that Jefferson request be passed by Congress which closed all U.S Ports to trading with foreign places and they restricted imports from Great Britain. It was meant to punish Britain and France.

    The Chesapeake- Leopard affair was a naval engagement between the British and American. The British then followed, and attacked the boat looking for deserters of the British Navy.

    The 3 year war fought between the U.S and Great Britain because of Britain's restrictions on trade and Americas want for territory. It ended in the Treaty of Ghent which will be explained further in the "treaty of Ghent".

    The U.S had taken over Lake Erie so Tecumsah left, later getting involved in the battle of Thames and he was killed by Colonel Johnson which marked the end of Indian resistance.

    The Hartford Convention was a secret meeting of Federalists to talk about the grievances against President Madison concerning the war and the Embargo. This led to the Federalists losing power in the future.

    The Treaty of Ghent was the treaty signed by America and Britain to end the war of 1812 and it made both countries return territories conquered.
  • Battle of New Orleans

    This was the greatest land victory accomplished by the U.S during the war. Also being the last major battle of the war led by Andrew Jackson. British thought by winning this battle they would attain Louisiana.
