First Ship
The Brown brothers sent their first slave ship, the Sally, out to Africa. It was a successful voyage. -
Second Ship
The Browns collaborated with their uncle and other merchants investing in another ship, "The Wheel of Fortune. However, this ship was taken over by the French, which cost the British a lot. -
Three Ships to the Caribbean
Nicholas Brown sent three ships to meet in the Caribbean, two to sell horses and other good. The third ship was the Sally. It was to go pick up slaves for sale in the colonies to support their iron and candle business. -
Sally Arrives in Africa
The Sally finally arrived in West Africa, around present day Guinea. Captain Hopkins and other traders met African leaders so they could trade. For the next 9 months they sailed along the African coast, trading slaves. -
Capt Hopkins Buys Their Last Slave
On August 20, 1765, Captain Hopkins bought their last slave.The total of slaves now came up to 196. -
Deaths
On the eighth day at sea the slaves had an uprising. It killed 8 slaves. Later on 88 slaves had perished during the voyage of the Sally. The remaining slaves were sold for a low price because of their poor health. -
Not a Success
The Sally was an economic failure for the Brown brothers, and a tragedy over all.
