13th Amendment
Makes slavery illegal. This event lead to the passing of the 15th amendment because it made African Americans free, making them to soon be able to vote. -
15th Amendment
Gave the right to African American males to vote. This was important because it started to make people realize that they should vote too. -
Odd voting laws
These laws were made in the south to help prohibit African Americans from voting. This even lead to decreased voting rights, even though it was okay for them to vote. -
Constitutional Literacy tests
The supreme court ruled that Literacy tests were okay. This was important because it let states discriminate against people. -
Grand father clause unconstitutional
This law stated that if your grandfather didn't vote, you couldn't vote either. This was important because then the cycle would continue, never letting anyone in that family vote. -
19th amendment
This let women vote and was important because it showed that no matter who it was, you should have the right to vote. -
No more poll taxes
The supreme court ruled poll taxes are unconstitutional which was important because it meant true voting freedom. -
24th amendment
This amendment outlawed poll taxes completely. -
Freedom Summer
This tried to get more African Americans to vote in Mississippi -
Voting Rights act
This banned any racism in voting.
