Literacy Test Are Constitutional!!
Passing a literacy test was a requirement for someone to be able to vote. These were put in place to oppress the African Americans (because many could not read at that time). This was a huge obstacle for many. -
Grandfather Clause Is Ruled Unconstitutional
The Grandfather Clause was , like literacty test, to oppress African Americans. The law stated that anyone who has a Grandfather in the country who can vote, can vote. This excluded lots of African Americans because either their Grandfather was a slave or still in Africa. -
19th Amendment
Women win the right to vote after a long struggle. This act of feminism, sparked the start of Feminism in America, today. -
Poll Taxes are Constituitonal!
Poll taxes are a price you had to pay to be able to vote. This was to discourage poor people to vote. -
24th Amendment!!
This amendment declares poll taxes unconstitutional. -
Freedom Summer
This was an attempt to register African Americans , in Mississippi, to vote. This attempt , of course, met with violence. -
Voting Rights Act
This act banned racial and ethic discrimination in elections, such as required literacy test.
