The "All persons born or naturalized are citizens" statement did away with the property requirments that males had toadhere to. This increased the nuber of possible voters. -
15th amendment
Granted African American men the right to vote by declaring that the "right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude." This meant that all previously slaves had the right to take part in the american political system. This was major since the civil war had ended only 5 years ago at that point. -
19th amendment
prohibits any United States citizen to be denied the right to vote based on sex. Virtually gave women the right to vote and added another demographic -
23rd amendment
Amendment that permits citizens in the District of Columbia to vote for Electors for President and Vice President. This was done in response to numerous complaints about the fairness of not allowing citizen of the United states to vote. -
24th amendment
prohibits both Congress and the states from conditioning the right to vote in federal elections on payment of a poll tax or other types of tax. This ended the Jim crow laws era of poll tax which kept blacks and poor whites out of the polling booth. -
Voting rights acts of 1965
This act was a National Legislation in the United States that outlawed discriminatory voting practices which included gerrymandering, poll taxes and literacy test. This allowed african americans who had been denied the right to vote in southren states to do so. -
26th amendment
barred the states or federal government from setting a voting age higher than eighteen. This was done to allow soliders who were fighting in the vietnam war to be allowed to vote. This created a natianol precdent for age in the United States
