Ball Design Creation
A specific design for the ball for volleyball was created that consisted of three layers; a latex inner layer like bicycle tire material, a cheesecloth material around the first layer, and a leather outer layer. Although volleyball the game was invented 1895, the creation of the ball solidified volleyball as its own individual, unique game.

First National Championship

First Two-Man Beach Tournament
The first two-man beach tournament took place in LA, California. This introduced a new variation of the now official sport of Volleyball.

First World Championship
The first World Championships were held in Prague, Czechoslovakia. The Soviet Union won the gold medal. This recognized Volleyball on an international level for the first time.

Introduced to Olympics
Volleyball was introduced to the Olympic Games during the Summer Olympics in Tokyo. It was represented by both women’s and men’s teams. Soviet Union won gold for men’s and Japan won gold for Women’s. This introduction to the Olympics changed the way Volleyball was viewed since being a part of the Olympics made is undeniably an official sport.
