    The Battle or Siege of Potidea marks the first conflict of the Peloponessian War. The Athenian army defeated the Corinthian army at Potidea around 431 BC. The bowl depicted here portrays two men on horses. This shows the shift from the idea of a culture flourishing to a culture beginning to go to war.
