A 14 year old African American boy was tortured and killed in Money, MS for saying "Bye Baby" to the white lady working the store. This pushed African Americans to really have a CRM. -
Federal Troops for Desegregation
President Eisenhower was forced by Federal Court to provide Federal Troops for the 9 African American kids to attend Little Rock HS to desegregate the school. This gave African Americans the mindsett of having a process to desegregate everything and have better education. -
Mack Charles Parker Lynching
An African American accused of raping a pregnant white woman in Northern Pearl River County, MS was taken out of jail by a mob, beaten shot and lynched. This was just another case for the African American activist to fight against to see how racist and brutal people are in the South. -
Freedom Riders Attack
In Birmingham, Klansmen were given 15 minutes to do whatever they wanted to the freedom riders bus by Bull Conner and Tom Cook. So the bus got bomb fired outside of the town and they tried to hold the door to keep the freedom riders in but something set off that blew everyone away. This got activist to continue testing segragegation -
William Lewis Moore Slain Durin One-Man March
William Moore postal worker and Congress of Racial Equality was murdered during a protest he attended against segregration. This motivated the civil rights movement. -
Birgminham Police Attack Marching Children
The SCLC used students to protest, Bull Conner sent Police with night sticks, dogs and fire hoses so the students were attacked. Few were hurt. This made African American parents want to fight back. -
Medgar Evars Assassinated
Civil Rights leader was shot in his driveway by a white suprimicist named Byron De La Beckwith. This lead to a all-white jury failing to convict Byron De La Beckwith which finally led to African Americans sparking a bunch of protest. -
Schoolgirls Die in Bombing of 16th St. Baptist Church
Addie Mae Collins, Denise McNair, Carole Robertson, and Cynthia Wesley died in the basement of 16th St. Baptist Church after it was bombed by Klansmen. The men weren't found guilty. This lead to outrage of African Americans which also led to improvement of CRA -
Civil Rights Workers Abducted & Slain By Klansmen
James Chaney, Andrew Goodman, and Micheal Schnerner were working on the "Freedom Summer" campaigne attempting to register blacks to vote and they were kidnapped and lynched by KKK members in Philadelphia, MS. This made blacks outrage and motivate the passing of CRA of 1964. -
Jimmie Lee Jackson Gets Killed By State Trooper
Civil rights protester was shot and killed by an Alabama State Trooper, James Bonard Fowler in Marion Alabama. This made African Americans start the Selma to Montgomery Marches. -
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Assassinated
African American activist and promient civil rights leader was shot and killed outside of Lorraine Motel in Memphis, TN by James Earl Ray. Some blacks thought this meant the end of a strategy of non-violence. Others saw to carry on his work.
