    A young black 14 year old boy got dared to say something to a white lady leaving the store. She told her peoples and they went and beat him brutally to death. This was important to African American society because it showed how a black person could not say anything to whites, not even a little jokey joke.
  • Little Rock Nine

    Little Rock Nine
    Nine African American Students atteded an all white school, they were being harrassed and threatned by both students and their parents. US Army's 101st Airborne Division ascorted them to school, to ensure nothing would happen to them. This was important to African American society, because they took a stand for intergration which is what most blacks wanted.

    An African American man was accused of molesting a white woman. He got sent to jail, but then was taken out for lynching. This was important to African American society because it shows that a white man could blame anything on black and get away with it; same with woman.
  • Freedom Riders

    Freedom Riders
    A group of Civil Right Activist rode interstate buses to the South and visit places that were segregated. They tried to see if the Jim Crow law was really enforce or was is just some crap to make African Americans feel like one. Whites threw bombs in the buses they were on which killed and brutally hurt them. This was important to African American society because it was a start of stopping segregation.

    A memeber of C.o.R.E (Congress of Racial Equality), who stood up for African American rights with protest against segregation. During his last protest, he was murder by racist people of the South. This was important to African American society because it showed that it was not only blacks who didn't want segregation and whites got killed for it as well.

    An African-American civil rights activist who went against school segregation at the University of Mississippi . This was important to African American society because it was a part of racial segregation in schools.

    Four little girls under the age of 15 were killed during a bombing of a church on their way to semon, in birmingham. This was important to African American society because it shows the dangerous struggles they had to go through for freedom.

    James Chaney, Andrew Goodman, and Michael Schwerner
    Three young civil right workers who were arrested by the FBI then released to the KKK where they were beat and burned to death for going after civil rights. This was a very important event in history not only to African Americans but to all people because the people that killed them were not charged over 6 years in jail time and none of them got the death penalty.

    An unarmed African American who was killed by Alabama State Trooper James Bonard Fowler for trying to vote. This was important to African American society because it shows that laws were not being appreciated.

    Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
    A well known activist and leader of the Civil Rights Movement. He led the montgomery Bus Boycott, organized nonviolent protest, and gave many speech on intergation. He was then assasinated James Earl Ray. He was very important to African American society because he was a big componet and inspiration to intergation.
