    Creation of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam
    This is when the leader of Viet Minh, Ho Chi Minh announced that they were going to Create the Democratic Republic of Vietnam. This means that north vietnam is now a socialist country and being supported by the Soviet Union. This lasted from 1945 to 1976.
  • Battle of Dien Bien Phu

    Battle of Dien Bien Phu
    The Battle of Dien Bien Phu was fought between March 13- May 7 of 1954. It was a fight between French and Viet Minh. The French were eventually defeated and they ended it in a agreement that was set in place sometime in march.
  • Creation of the 17th parallel between North and South Vietnam

    Creation of the 17th parallel between North and South Vietnam
    This was a line created to separate North and South Vietnam. The 17th parallel was created by the Geneva Accords. This was mostly used as a political barrier because each area believed in and wanted different types of governments.

    This replaced the Nguyen dynasty and this meant that Vietnam was no longer a French colony. This also created a communist part of the country which had separated it into the north and south.

    This is was set up to overthrow the south so they would no longer be communists. The north did not want to become communist because over time they knew it would spread if they didnt do anything. also the US wanted to contain the spread of communism too.

    This gave president Johnson the right to do anything in his power to keep the peace. They were trying to keep peace amongst the world and security in southeast asia.

    This was a battle that went on during the cold war. It was very intense and it was all mostly in the air. The soul perpas of this mission was To get Ho Chi Minh to give up his control of south Vietnam. This way the US and other countries can stop the spread of communism.
  • US combat troops arrive in Vietnam

    US combat troops arrive in Vietnam
    The US sent 3,500 troops over to Vietnam on March 8, 1965. This was the first time that any American troops had been sent there. They were there to defend an american air base.

    A few people like Rubin, Phil Ochs, and others ran their own presidential convention. There was an actual pig present which was their candidate pigsus. All these men were arrested plus others.

    This was a series of attacks by North Vietnamese troops on South Vietnam. They attacked many cities in south vietnam. This made americans come to the realization that the vietnam was not over like the government had led them to believe.
  • My Lai Massacre

    US soldiers were ordered to storm a village. The harmed many innocent people and killed almost 500 people including kids. This is probably one of the only times the US has committed a war crime.

    This is when former President Nixon won the election. and became president for his second term. He later resigned in 1974 before his term was up. He was and is still the only president to resign.

    This was held on Max Yasgurs dairy farm during August 15-18 of 1969. This was set up to be 3 days of peace & music. And it was just that, there were 32 acts performed and it was completely peaceful in with it raining during that time.

    This was a fight for the students to have the right to have the freedom of speech and expression. the Supreme Court had originally said that they should leave those things outside of school, but in the end it was changed in favor of the students having the freedom of speech and expression in school.
  • Kent State University Protest

    This led to a shooting on kent state campus and it killed 4. The shooter was a Ohio National Guard that shot into a crowd. The Students were protesting to end the Vietnam war.
  • Jackson State College Protest

    In the middle of the night on May 15, 1970 a officer fired shots at students and others. These people were protesting about the Vietnam war at Jackson State College. Two studenst died and there was 12 injured.
  • Pentagon Papers

    These were a part of a top-secret defense study deparment that was involved in the Vietnam war. Daniel Ellsberg was in this group and felt that america should know what is going on. He got copies of the papers and sent in to new york times to be sent out to everyone
  • Watergate

    This was a break-in to the Watergate hotel where there was a scandal in a the headquarters of the Democratic National Committee. There was evidence found of him telling someone that he will pay however much to the 5 BUglars to keep them quite. although everyone else that was apart of the crime was punished he was not.

    This was the official agreement to end the Vietnam war. it was set in place to restore peace and it is later broken by both south and north vietnam many times.
  • United States vs. Nixon

    This was a decision that was made by the supreme court that ordered him the Give up the tape recordings. This led to them finding things out about the Watergate case and the president could no longer lie about it.
  • Fall of Saigon

    This was the event that marked the end of the Vietnam war. This is when the capital of south vietnam fell to north vietnam army and it was the soul reason for the end of the war. America helped by evacuating thousands of people in the days leading up to it.
