Vietnam is Annoced Independent
The Japanese surrender Indochina(Vietnam,Laos, Cambodia). Ho Chi Minh then annoces Vietnam as an Independent Nation. -
The French Troops
After surrendering Indochina the French return back to Vietnam. In an attack they forces the Vietminh into hiding and begin to control Vietnam again. -
A New Government
After taking over Vietnam again the French Officals set up a new Govenment. The Vietminh at the time did not have any control. -
Dien Bien Phu
The Domino Theory was created and afterward the wars and attacks began. The french commander first ordered the troops to go to Dien Bien Phu and attack there. -
French and Vietcong
After years of fighting the French finally surrendered. They make peace with the Vietminh and withdrew from Indochina after the Vietminh defeated them. -
The United States and France
Since the French was taking ove Vietnam they needed support financial. By 1954 the United States was paying 3/4th of France's war cost. -
President Eisenhower And The Domino Theory
After the United States got involved President Eisenhower created the Domino Theory, The Domino Theory said that if Vietnam fell to communism so would other nations of Southeast Asia. -
The United States and South Vietnam
During election most Americans eith wanted to be on North Vietnam's side or South Vietnam's. American officials later decided to support the government of South Vietnam. -
North and South Vietman
Elections began in 1956 between Nixon and Eisenhower. The elections created tension between North Vietnam and South Vietnam and the United States had gotton involved, -
The Vietcong Attack
Since the French was now controling Vietnam they decided to fight back. The Vietcong assassinated 1,000's of government officials and established control. -
The Military Expands
As the war progressed more troops began to come. So, from 1961 to 1963 the number of american troops in Vietnam increased from 2,000 to 15,000. -
After Diem Was Overthrowed
Diem was the leader of South Vietman during the time they entered the war. After he was suddenly overthrowed, the United States starterd to help the South Vietnamese government. -
President Johnson Annoncement
When military men saw what appered as a torpedo in the Gulf of Tonkin they assumed it was an attack. President Johnson annonced that that torpedo boats were fired in the Gulf. -
Gulf of Tonkin Resolution
After the assumed torpedo boats were launched in the Gulf of Tonkin they passed the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution. The Resolution said that the president could take any measure to repel attacks against the forces of the U.S. -
Attack on Pleiku
On the base of Pleiku there was a massive attack by the Vietcong. Shortly Afterward their was various other attacks around. -
The United States Against North Vietnam
The US still didn't support North Vietnam. President Johnson expanded American involvement in the war by shifting policies to a bomb against North Vietnam. -
American Troops
At the begin of the war their was not many American Trroops. But, by the end of 1965 American troops involved in the Vietnam war was about 180,000. -
Deaths in Vietnam
Since so many troops had come to Vietnam so many innoncent soldiers lost their life. In 1966 about 6,700 American soldiers were killed. -
Vietnamese New Year
On this day the Vietnamese celebrated their New Years. Suddenly the Vietcong and North vietnamese attacked. -
Doves and Hawks
The nation split into two different camps, the Doves and Hawks. The Doves were against the war and represented peace. The Hawks wanted war and to be on top of every nation below them. -
Troops are Withdrawn
With the war not close to an end yet, many troops were withdrawn. President Nixon began to withdraw 25,000 soliders. -
The War Ends
The War ends slowly and the South and North Vietnamese Sign an agreement. The agreement ends the war and saves the peace in Vietnam. -
North capture South
The North captures South Vietnam after their agreement. The War Power Acts is created to reestablish limits on executives.
