    The 26th Amendment
    The debate on wether a person should be 18 or 21 to vote was questioned greatly amoung the people in the U.S. Duing Vietnam War, this debate increased. The most populat slogan that was used to represent this was, "Old enough to fight, old enough to vote." Many people agreed with this. Georgia was the first state to change this rule.

    Geneva Conference
    This conference was held in Geneva, Switzerland. THis conference's purpose was to attempt in finding a way to resolve the major issues on the Korean Peninsula.
  • Land Reforms

    Land Reforms
    Following the communist doctrine, Ho Chi Minh ordered taking out or (sweeping) the land reforms. This was in North Vietnam. There were tons of people categorized as rich land owners that were imprisoned, tortured, and some killed. Many families then headed to South Vietnam.
  • Guerrilla War

    Guerrilla War
    The Ex-Viet Minh forces in South VIetnam got together and organized. WIth great support from Ho Chi Minh, this began a campaign of guerilla wargare against Diem's administration.
  • First American Deaths

    First American Deaths
    Two of the military advisors were killed by Viet Minh (guerilla soldiers) in a raid at Bien Hoa in South Vietnam. These are the first American deaths that were reported in Vietnam.
  • National Liberation Front and Viet Cong Formed

    National Liberation Front and Viet Cong Formed
    NLF also known as the National Liberation Front was created to crush Diem's regime. This was for South Vietnam.
  • Visit from Johnson

    Visit from Johnson
    Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson visits South Vietnam and offered economic and military aid to Diem. By the end of the year, the U.S. military presence in Vietnam reached 3,200 soldiers.
  • Tonkin Resolution

    Tonkin Resolution
    During the spring of this time, the planners for the military had created a detailed design of major attacks for the North, Fearing that the people would not support this, President Lyndon was cautious. By summer time, the rebel forces had control for the majority of South Vietnam.
  • Operation Rolling Thunder

    Operation Rolling Thunder
    This plan was supposed to be an eight week campaign for bombing. It was developed to interdict North Vietnamese transportation routes in the southern part of North Vietnam.
  • Tet Offensive

    Tet Offensive
    This was one of the largest military campaigns of the Vietnam War. This was launched by the Viet Cong and North Vietnamese army against the impact of South Vietnam, the US, and their allies.
  • My Lai

    My Lai
    US troops were commanded to look throught the villiage as a search and destroy group. The US troops shot the elderly, woman , and children. They sought out to find people within the miliary age, for the soldiers thought there were members of the NLF there. Studies show there was barely anyone at age. It took approximately three days to bury the bodies.

    US Withdrawl from Troops
    Out of 25,0000 troops, 815 soldiers were the first to be withdrawn in the very first stage of the U.S disengagement. Unfortunately, the last U.S troops after the Paris Peace Records.
  • Vietnamization

    Vietnamization
    This was a plan that was entitled to encourage the South Vietnamese to try to take more responsiblitity in their actions towards the war. Hopefully by using this plan, the US was able to withdraw their soldiers from Vietnam.
  • Kent State

    Kent State
    Because students were protesting against the war, Ohio National Guard members had shot the crowd of students. The shooting killed four students and wounded nine. This event caused a nation wide student strike.
  • War Powers Act

    War Powers Act
    After more than a decade, congress passed the War Powers Act. This act was intended to attempt correcting the thoughts of the Congress and the American public who saw excessive war related movements in the presidents power.
  • South Vietnam Surrender

    South Vietnam Surrender
    Communists North Vietnamese and Viet Cong forces caught the capital of Saigon from South Vietnamese making the South Vietnam give up and bring an end to the Vietnam War.
