    Ho Chi Minh Declares Vietnam goes Independent
    Ho Chi Minh had declared that Vietnam goes independent and it will be called the Deomocratic Republic of Vietnam
  • The Geneva Accords

    The Geneva Accords
    The Geneva Accords had created a peace agreement which was between the North and South Vietnams called the 17th parallel. Ho Chi Minh controlled the North, Anti-Communists controlled the South. There was a unifaction that was held in 1956 to try and get them to join back up.
  • Ho Chi Minh Trail

    Ho Chi Minh Trail
    Throughout the year 1959. The group named 559 which was a North Vietnam Army. They were developed to help build a supply route that was between the North and South Vietnam. It had then got known as the Ho Chi Minh Trail
  • Very First Deaths in the War

    Very First Deaths in the War
    America had experience there first deaths of the war in Vietnam. Two of the advisors had gotten killed by the Viet Minh Guerillas during a raid at Bien Hoa. South Vietnam was the first non-combat death in Vietnam.

  • Strategic Hamlet Program

    Strategic Hamlet Program
    Strategic Hamlet Program was designed to have the US and South Vietnam Government to group the population into villages. This purpose of this program was to demolish the rural population in Viet Cong, and influence and strengthen Diem. He had a hold over the countryside by giving them health care and education.
  • Ngo Dhin Diem got Assassinated

    Ngo Dhin Diem got Assassinated
    Ngo Dhin Diem was a guy who had gone with everything the Roman Catholics did, he would favor them. Then he would attack Buddhism. During all of this the Americans were trying to get him to stop. Diem wouldn't though. That led to his assassination in Novemeber. All of this had gone against President Kennedys wishes
  • Tonkin Resolution

    Tonkin Resolution
    Torpedo boats of North Vietnamese fired on two American destroyers that were in the Gulf of Tonkin. Two days later another attack happened. The Senate and the House had passed the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution, which had the president to do what he needed to do to prevent further aggression
  • Rolling Thunder Operation

    March of 1965, US President Johnson had expanded the American involvement in the war by turning his policy to a bombing campaign against the North Vietnam people.
  • The Tet Offensive

    The Tet Offensive
    During the Tet Offensive the guerrilla fighters had attacked all of the American airbases in South Vietnam while destroying most of the major cities and the capitals in South Vietnam. This battle was one of the bloodiest battles and it took place at Hue.
  • The Battle for Hue

    The Battle for Hue
    South Vietnam troops and US troops had recaptured Hue after he was in control of the North Vietnam Communists for a total of 26 days. Due to the victory graves of thousands of troops were found, after they had been executed during the Tet Offensive
  • The Massacre in My Lai

    The Massacre in My Lai
    The United States soldiers had massacred 347 Vietnam civilians. The majority of the civilians were children, women and the elderly men that were from My Lai. This news didn't get out to the US people until November of 1969

    Vietnamization was aimed at trying to end the war. It was a strategy that President Nixon had came up with.

    North Vietnam leader Ho Chi Minh had died at age 79. The leaders in North Vietnam had embalmed and had his body put on display it in a mausoleum instead of doing what he would have liked and had his body cremated
  • Massacre at Kent State

    Massacre at Kent State
    In 1970 American troops had invaded Cambodia. Their intention was to destroy all of the military bases that belonged to Vietcong. May 4, 1970. Kent State University in Ohio had experienced something a little crazy. National Guard soldiers fired at demonstrators without any order to do that. They had killed four students, and nine students were seriously injured.
  • Invasion of Cambodia

    Invasion of Cambodia
    Cambodia had gotten attacked by the American and South Vietnam troops. They had destroyed there bases that had supplied care to all of the Viet Cong people. During all of this there was a 60 day operation, thousands of weapons were captured and over 10,000 Viet Cong people were killed during all of this.

    The 26th Amendment had stirred up some discussion about the age of voters. Americans were saying that if they were old enough to be in the war and fight then they should have the right to vote also. In the year of 1971 all citizens that were older than 18 had the right to vote

    United States President Nixon had resigned after the Watergate scandal. Following his resignation the Vice President Gerald Ford had taken office
  • South Vietnam Surrender

    South Vietnam Surrender
    The United States had gotten there troops out of Vietnam right before the peace agreement collapsed. North Vietnamese captured Saigon, which was South Vietnam's capital. It was now under communist rule and they renamed Saigon to Ho Chi Minh City
