Eisenhower was the commander of the allied forces in Europe, after the war he became Army Chief- of- Staff, and he directed NATO for two years. -
Geneva Accords
The Geneva Accords addressed that Vietnam would become an independent nation, ending the 75 years of French colonialism. Cambodia and Laos would become independent as well, and Vietnam would be split into for two years. -
Dien Bien Phu
This was a war fought between the Viet Minh communist revolutionaries and the French Union. The French sent their soldiers into Dien Bein Phu to cut off Viet Minh supply lines to the Kingdom of Laos, which was an ally of the French. This would force the Viet Minh into a confrontation. The war ended after the Geneva Accords, France agreed to withdraw their soldiers and the control of North Vietnam was giving to the Viet Minh. -
Johnson Administration
Johnson wanted to stay out of Vietnam but sent out soldiers anyway to stop the spread of communism. He signed the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965. -
Tonkin Resolution
The Tonkin Resolution authorized President Johnson to take any measures necessary to retaliate and promote peace and security with Asia. -
Gulf of Tonkin
At the Gulf on Tonkin, which is off the coast of Vietnam, two unprovoked attacks by Vietnamese torpedo boats were carried out upon destroyers Maddox and Turner Joy of the United State seven fleet. -
Fulbright Commission
The purpose of the Fulbright Program in Vietnam is to expand the mutual understanding of educational and cultural exchange between the United States and foreign countries. In Vietnam under the Fulbright Program, they are allowed to study the following: social sciences and humanities. -
Tet Offensive
The Viet Cong in South Vietnam launched a major offensive in hopes of widespread rebellion in the country. This attempt failed and succeeded at the same time. The psychological impact that this left on the United States and South Vietnam was a success. -
Vietnamization
Nixon announced his policy to withdrawl the 540,000 US troops stationed in South Vietnam, forcing South Vietnam to fight their own war. -
My Lai Massacre
This was a military assault in a small Vietnamese village in which US soldiers were commanded by 2nd Lieutenant William Calley to murder many women and children. After this many opposed the war and uncovered that the government attempted to cover up this atrocity. -
Nixon Administration
The 26th amendment was passed in 1971. Nixon reduced Us involvement in Vietnam and settled things with China. -
Invasion of Cambodia
The invasion of Cambodia was carried out in order to attack the headquarters of the Viet Cong base camps. -
Daniel Ellsberg
Ellsberg was employed and RAND whilst he released the Pentagon Papers causing political controversy. These papers revealed the United States government's decision-making process in the Vietnam War to the people. -
