Due to persecution, Mormon's migrated across the US to settle near what is now Utah. -

The issue of education was another problem in Utah's quest for statehood. Many people outside of Utah felt that Utah didn't have a good education system. They felt that if the children were educated, then they would not be "dragged" into Mormonism. Sadly for Utah Territory, it's educational system was indeed struggling. -

As Utah, was continually denied for statehood, they continued to practice polygamy. The Republicans put many acts into effect that prohibited the practice of polygamy and set on a path to rid the practice by fining and imprisioning many people who continued the practice. -

In 1881, Harper's Bazaar said that Utah was a territory comprised mostly of immigrants and children of immigrants. People outside felt that the immigration situation within Utah should prevent Utah from being a state. They felt that immigration replenished polygamy. -
National Political Parties
After almost half a century, the US government wanted to take a closer look at Utah's political parties. They wanted to see if they admited Utah as a state, if the state would bring Democrats of Republicans to the political playing field. They found that Utah had a Mormon party and a non-Mormon party. -
National Opinion
Sadly, advocating for their religion failed the Mormons at the World's Fair in 1893. Instead of gaining understanding for their cause for statehood, the Mormons were snubbed. Their beliefs were, as was aparent throughout history, unpopular.
