Reynolds v. United States
Polygamist Mormon Reynolds goes to court and argues he has a first amendment right to practice polygamy. But the supreme court rules against him. They say laws against polygamy are constitutional because, while congress can't take action against people's religious beliefs, they can take action against certain religious practices. -
Edmunds-Tucker Act
"Dear Mormons, since you insist on practicing polygamy, we're confiscating all church property and revoking voting rights for women in Utah. You can kiss any chance at statehood goodbye, too. Sincerely, the U.S. government." -

The Great Depression
The Depression hits Utah hard. Unemployment is 35.8%, wage level goes down 45%, and annual per capita income goes down by 50%. Many Utahns go into farming and mining, receive aid from federal government programs, or seek help from the LDS church. -

Lt. Colonel Paul Tibbets, pilot of the famous Enola Gay, selected Wendover Air Force Base as the training ground for the 509th, the group that would eventually drop the atomic bomb over Hiroshima. -

As the allies take Berlin, Adolf Hitler commits suicide. Germany's forces are beaten. Victory for the allies! -
Bombing of Hiroshima
In an effort to force Japan to surrender, the U.S. drops an atomic bomb on the city of Hiroshima. 80,000 people are killed instantly, while tens of thousands more suffer from injuries, severe burns, and radiation poisoning. -
V-J Day
After years of fighting and two atomic bombs dropped on Japan, the Japanese finally surrender, ending the war. The U.S. is victorious!
